spontaneously went to broad ripple with adree and her mom today. we got a huge genova pizza at bazbeaux's and ate some carrot cake at the coffee shop. shopped at the vintage store and bought gum and other health products at the good earth. cold day! good pizza.
adree chased ducks and we all chewed ginseng gum.

rainbow cheez crackers

Wow so many bakings and cookings goins on. TyLea and I took a walk down the road with our red bowed Noodles. And we took a little bike ride and picked up some cans. followin in dads footprints. or footsteps?
i made a whole mess of those nutritional yeast crackers that mummy loves.
later tyLea and i are baking our very own pizza for dinner. twill be yummy.
my half is going to have ground meatless, nutritional yeast cheez sauce, and maybe capers.
to the crackers!

Computers are about trying to murder you in a lake.

Well I have no picture of the vegan ice cream, but the vanilla sure was tasty. TyLea came over around 3 and I made more of the 'amazing mac and cheez sauce' from the uncheese cookbook and we had that with wheat rotini. This is a photo of TyLea's mac with emeril's bayou blast spice on it, and some organic ketchup swirl. We watched about 4 episodes of The Office and she spent the night. Today we are going to do artsy-fartsy things and maybe ride bikes. Later tonight we are going to buy my book and go to Kohl's!
By the by, here is the vegan vanilly ice cream recipe!

1-1/2 c silk vanilla soymilk (very vanilla would make it very luxurious)
1/2 can coconut milk
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 c. + 2 TBs. turbinado sugar
Blend all together in a blender heeeeh
and pour into 2 shallow bowls and stick
in freezer. stir every hour until froze
(about 3-4 hrs.)

veeegan ice cream + the office

TyLea is coming over in a bit and we are going to party and watch the new season of The Office! and eat homemade vegan ice cream, which I just whipped up. I made a batch of pomegranate-orange and a batch of thick vanilla. Mm. I will post with recipe later on.....

anthropomorphic bee cereal

Alright, I will get this out into the open. I love cereal. I love it for breakfast. I usually eat really healthy brands, Smart Brain from nature's path is the favorite. BUT since Mom bought a ginormous box of HONEY NUT CHEERIOS i can't keep my mits off 'em. They are delish. Yes I am vegan, but I do eat honey. I love bees and the product they give. And if I put honey on things, I buy local honey from Hunter's Honey Farm.
But seriously, this cereal is grrreat. oh wait, not that great. the other great. They have no milk product, and they just use sugar & brown rice syrup as sweeteners. They truly are shiny rings of gold that I can digest.
In short, I love this 1979 cereal.

sending off to oregon-cookies.

went to daunie's on Saturday and stayed until Monday! we took the pets to the vet and learned about nematodes on a gross animal planet show. adree drove down and we all lunched at laughing planet (forever i shall order the veggie burger with soy cheese, oh how heavenly!) and we bought a season of spongebob!!!
Sunday night we baked up the Vegan with a Vengeance's chocolate chip cookies, you know, the little cookies that seem to be on everyones blog! Those cute puffers. We baked them up for the boys on tour (including daunie's boyfriend Chris!) We didn't get a picture of them, but here is a good picture from another person's flickr, it's from ashmac. ours turned out quite dark because we used whole wheat flour, and we burned the bottoms of the 2nd batch because I was too busy taking pictures of daunie & pancake in her new white wicker chair!

college mac and cheez!

Got home from first day of classes at college, and made faux mac and cheeeez!
College was amazing. I have a fundamentals of design class, where we learn to look deeply at objects and describe them, what they look like in different ways. We studied a deer antler.
Later on I had my basic photography class, with a man named Darryl Jones, who actually has about 15 photography books published. He has many on Indiana, and one that I have seen before, of the old post office murals. He talked about cameras the whole time and took us into the dark room, we are doing photograms on Wednesday!
Anyway, this is a food blog, so here is the recipe for the yumful batch of mac and chee I made.
The cheez sauce is from "The Uncheese Cookbook" and is called: Amazing Mac 'N Cheez Sauce.
1/2 c flour, 1/2 c nutritional yeast, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp paprika, 2 c plain soymilk/ water, 1/4 c olive oil, 1/2 tsp prepared mustard (i used dijon)
combine flour, yeast, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika in a medium saucepan. gradually whisk in soymilk, olive oil, and mustard. Cook over medium heat whisking almost constantly until bubbly, thick, and smooth. (This takes about 10-12 mins. You will know when it gets thick! And the bubbles will pop on the surface when it is boiling)

College! granola.

So I got up this morning...at 8 and showered. Made my first granola! And on a memorable day, first day of college! There is snow on the ground and the house is warm. And my granola is yumful. My own recipe! Tastes a lot like the Bfoods granola, only I added raisins. and they puffed up huge and black, and now they are the texture of a freeze dried strawberry, and don't taste so nice. So down with raisins! (daun is queen of that club)
I had this weird dream last night that I was playing an arcade game where I had to throw socks and weird objects at this moving utility belt, and everytime I would hit a blank space, where no socks were, it would give me points. The grinch crushed one of my objects I threw because I threw it right below him. Then I threw a sock and it hit another machine, and the room filled with red light and the machine I hit was on fire. I thought it would explode but it didn't. Very weird dream.
I will post later with the recipe of my granola, which is going in Cakewalk II!

Granola is a breakfast food and snack food consisting of rolled oats, nuts, honey and sometimes rice, which is baked until crispy. During the baking process the mixture is stirred to maintain a loose, breakfast cereal type consistency. Dried fruit, particularly raisins or dates, are sometimes also added. (Wikipedia)

buckwheat

Copied a recipe at Daunie's for 'oat flour biscuits', out of her vegetarian times cookbook. Modified the recipe today and baked little flat buckwheat biscuits. They looked like flat little scones. They weren't fluffy like biscuits, but crunchy around the edges and cracker-like. But they were really really tasty!

little buckwheat biscuits.
1-1/3 c. whole wheat pastry flour
2/3 c. buckwheat flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. sea salt
1/3 c. oil
1/2 c. plain soymilk (about 1/2 c. more or less)

mix together dry. add oil and enough soymilk to make a soft dough.
knead the dough and roll out and cut with circles (or fun cookie cutters)
Bake at 450 degrees for about 10-15 mins. until they are browned slightly on the edges and on the bottom.
Serve warm with earth balance spread.

scrumptious cookbook....

doesn't this cookbook look simply divine? I would love to make vegan desserts that look like these....

Pancake's Pumpkin Muffins.

today was a fun filled day of daunie no-workie!
We took a winter hike with Iggy and went to the library. I got a ton of cookbooks (candle cafe, moosewood desserts, anatomy of dessert, dirty south/bandito zine-like cookbook....) And an astrology book. I also got 2 copies of my vegan zine, cake walk!
For the afternoon, we baked the pumpkin crumb cake from veganomicon. We pulled a double. Made 2 round cakes, a loaf, and 6 muffins. We topped them with pecan pieces and blackberries and blueberries instead of streusel topping. they were marvelous.
then we had quiet reading time.
we just finished a dinner of leftover mac daddy and we made a double recipe of chickpea cutlets, fried em this time.
now we are going to lay in bed and daunie is going to fall asleep and we is watchin 'mccabe & mrs. miller' again.
tomorrow we is delivering scrumptious half cakes to friends.

"Let's all thank the ladle."

So yesterday daunie worked all day and i layed my body about the house. watching gilmore girls and falling asleep...updating my blog...but Then! she came home and we ran to the library and sought out movies. We got 'McCabe & Mrs. Miller' and lasted through 25 mins. of it and then snoozed.
The best part of last night was the fixin's! Of course!
We made Chickpea Cutlets and Mac Daddy from Veganomicon. I made the mac and daunie made the cutlets (new favorite food word). The saucey was made in a huge pot and I doubled it, as a result, it was not very thick, but it was tasty in the end. The cutlets looked like big flat chicken patties. We steamed some broccoli also.
I cannot even describe to you good people how tasty those cutlets were.
Wow. They reminded me of a salmon patty crossed with a chicken patty, it was the single most amazing thing I/we have ever baked. It was glorious, let's say that.
So if you own Veganomicon, go and make those damn chickpea cutlets and share them with friends. Sprinkle the neighborhood with cutlets. They will appreciate.

Milk-y snobby joes.

I had a full day of walking yesterday! took iggy a walk around the neighborhood, bagged his poo...daunie came home for a while and then she dropped me off at the mall and i walked about and then over to the movie theatre. I saw Milk (goooooooood) and walked over to B-foods after the movie.
I enjoyed an apple and a small cup of delicious peanut butter.
We took back Ghost Town and rented Hellboy II.
I made the "snobby joes" from veganomicon while daun showered the food smells off her. we then had a short health lesson of pooping. the right way to do it.
I still don't know what my plans are today. I suppose I will walk Iggy again after while and I am penniless, so I don't know where else to go!
By the way, here is the snobby joe reciept.

1 cup uncooked lentils
4 cups water

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced small
1 green pepper, diced small
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 Tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon salt
8 oz can tomato sauce (small small can)
1/4 cup tomato paste
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard (wet mustard)

4 to 6 rudi's whole wheat buns

Directions
Put the lentils in a small sauce pot and pour in 4 cups water. Cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, until lentils are soft. Drain and set aside.

About 10 minutes before the lentils are done boiling, preheat a medium soup pot over medium heat. Saute the onion and pepper in the oil for about 7 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and saute a minute more.

Add the cooked lentils, the chili powder, oregano and salt and mix. Add the tomato sauce and tomato paste. Cook for about 10 minutes. Add the maple syrup and mustard and heat through.

Turn the heat off and let sit for about 10 minutes, so that the flavors can meld, or go ahead and eat immediately if you can't wait. I like to serve these open faced, with a scoop of snobby joe on each slice of the bun.

dogumentary.

Came down to Daunie's to babysit Iggy. We took him to the dog park when it was twilight, and there was a big marmaduke dog. and a little pup chasing iggy that run under dauns feet and she tripped a far distance. I brought one of those Amy's cheeseless vegan pizzas and we ate that! We rented Ghost Town and got a huge bag of spinach at the kroger. today i am walking iggy around and going to see Milk.

"Duchess" party.

Just had my "Duchess" party. Mandy & Adree came over for it.
I baked all morning long!

  • Babycakes bakery NYC- black raspberry scones
  • Babycakes bakery NYC- gluten free blueberry muffins
  • Lemon madeleines
  • Layered chocolate mousse cups with soyatoo & blackberries
  • blood oranges
  • Lindt 'truffle cake' chocolate bar
  • Annie's bunny grahams
We watched the movie and then played some cards. I put in "Marie Antoinette" and we watched it too! I poufed Mandy's hair and stuck a tiny yellow bird in it. Us girls had such fun! My first ever madeleines (in the correct molds anyway) I had to run to adree's to bake them b/c the pan was too long to put in my toaster oven!

"smells like an old-timey breakfast"-dad.

Yesterday was a huge day of fun. We had a girl's day at circle centre. TyLea drove Monica and me up there and we met Krystal there. We shopped at H&M (the fav. store) and I bought tons of new clothes! We ate at Johnny Rocket's, in a shiny red booth with a little box sitting on the table where you could pop a nickel in and play a song. Just like they used to have. I played "brown-eyed girl", an elvis song, and "everyday" by buddy holly. I brought a hummus sandwich on ezekiel bread and an apple. Krystal and Monica had Taco Bell and TyLea had a frisco melt-like sandwich. We stayed until about 7:30 and we were pooped by the time we left. We all had so much fun though. TyLea got a makeover at Nordstrom for her date on Sunday and the ladies were really into it and asking her tons of questions about it. We got free perfume samples and a free sample of smashbox mascara. We took a lot of pictures together, but Krystal hasn't uploaded them yet to her computer, but I will post them later. I am wearing my fancy floppy hat I bought and my new sweater lined with fake fur (<3) big attraction.

New Year's!

Had such a lovely night! Adree and I drove down to stay with Daunie (Faerie Tart) and we planned to make the black bean burgers from The Veganomicon. So we did just that! They were like little vegan white castles! but we lacked pickles. They were delishious. We also watched Hellboy and yelled 'woo' when new years arrived. The next morning Daunie made her freakin famous biscuits. oh my land. they should be named angel biscuits. light as a cloud and fluffy like marshmallow creme. we ate them with bonne maman damson! plum preserves. how fancy it all was. and daun fried up some Gimme Lean! sausage patties for her and adri. i had some of my smart bran nature's path fiber cereal. rabbit pellets. and we did a little winter hike and met dogs at the dog park. and we shopped at b-foods. oh how wonderful it all was.
I guess I'll just have to go buy Veganomicon. Everyone surrounding me already owns it. and they aren't vegan.
