Mixin' the Fixin's cooking show.

Adri visited yesterday, all day! and we did our first cooking show (finally!) All those days of laying on her floor watching food network (probably Jamie at Home) and talking about doing one, we finally did!
I set up a table in my kitchen and it was really sunny, so it was perfect for recording. First she made Wolffie's eggnog muffins from la dolce vegan, but my camera erased the video somehow, so we lost that one (she was dropping things, like whole nutmeg) Next we made an apple butter glaze (idea from daunie) for our muffins. Then we made B.B. Nog Scones, adapted from the Babycakes NYC bakery for scones. We sprinkled brown sugar on the tops of the scones last and then baked them. It was so much fun!!! I will post the 2 videos later! adree donned a landlord tshirt for one of the episodes. represent!

mini marie a. cake

Here is the first little mini cake. It is in Marie A. colors, I like it but it is a bit of a slop fest. it was still really fun to decorate. i used the vegan cupcakes take over the world vanilla cupcake recipe with their vanilla buttercream. The top view is most prettiest.

eye candy

The Duchess is out on DVD today!
Today is the day I officially start making and stop planning (my Marie A. style mini cakes!)
I was especially inspired to get started by SweetiePie, a restaurant in Greenwich Village NY. Vogue ran a little article about the place and included the most awesome photo of all of its mini cakes, some meringues, and fools.
I will post soon when I get my first photo up of one of my many cakes I have drawn out and designed.

Yuletide tidings.....

Wow. Christmas was fun! Daunie slept in my bed with me on the floor on christmas eve and I couldn't sleep well so I woke up at 5 and played rollercoaster tycoon. Then everyone got up and we opened presents at 7. Here is everything I recieved.....
Sewing machine *
Thread and seam ripper (which I opened before the machine, then I knew what it was! ha)
The ultimate uncheese cookbook*
His girl friday dvd
of human bondage dvd
Casablanca 2 disc dvd *
Target giftcard (the 3rd of 4!!)
Pioneer bonnet * (I love me bonnets!! I have 2 now and am going to sew one)
Ethiopian instrument music record (from chris)
Landlord tee shirt (from chris-his boy band)
A HUGE 6 pound! tub of nutritional yeast (from daunie. this was embarrasingly huge....but will be awesome to whip out during a cooking show)
The Beatrix Potter country cookbook

I think that is all I recieved! Daunie got an "empire red" kitchenaid mixer. And wow did we put it to work!
We made desserts and a dip to take to granny's christmas.
I made pecan pie truffles from VegNews magazine (nov+dec 08-recipe by hannah kaminsky)
they were a hit ! and beautiful!
Daunie made gingerbread cupcakes with lemony buttercream frosting from vegan cupcakes take over the world. They were awesome!!!! The lemon frosting was really tangy!
And the last thing in the kitchenaid we made was our famous christmastime olive spread. It isn't vegan, but would be easily veganized (olives, mayo, cream cheese, pecans) spread on pump. bread.
At Granny's I recieved clothes and my 4th target giftcard (thinking about buying my digital camera i need for college with them all added up!)
Kodie came and he was stealing my shoe with my cousin Isaac.

Weekend with Daunie! Ate at Laughing Planet (holiday burrito....mashed taters, peas, corn, brown rice, cranberry relish and vegan gravy!) Amazing!
Recorded my FIRST cooking show! of pie dance productions. Daunie (of iggys canine cakery) made christmas dog cupcakes. daun is pictured at left with her tasty creation.
the video is my cooking show! minus the bloopers which were awesome! It is a bit choppy at the end because the recorder was dying, but you get the gist of it!
Here is the recipe for the frosting (video got cut up. In the picture, daun is wearing her one piece frosting jumper.
IGGY'S CANINE CAKERY CAROB FROSTING:
1 block softened cream cheese, about 2 tbs. honey (local preferably), about 2 tbs. carob powder (organic preferably)
Beat them all up together, place in a piping bag with a fancy tip and push through onto tiny cooled cupcakes.

the pioneer history of gingerbread.

i currently have a dark dark cake baking away in the oven. it goes by the name of "gingerbread". you may have heard of this cake, mostly made up of molasses. It was featured on one of the "two fat ladies" episodes, Clarissa made a Yorkshire gingerbread. Quite similar to the one I am baking. My recipe is from the Foxfire book, a 100-year old recipe, probably from a pioneer (<3). But did you know that gingerbread actually originated in Europe in the eleventh century? Many fairs in England became known as "gingerbread fairs". Pioneers did bring with them their traditions of making gingerbread from Northern Europe. In New England, maple syrup gingerbread's are popular, and in the South, sorghum molasses is used. I use a mix of sorghum and dark molasses (but not blackstrap, maybe just a hint if you really are in love with the black goo).
The wonderful drawing is by Miss Tasha Tudor.

Thou should'st have it to buy gingerbread"

amy sedaris' cupcakes!

tomorrow at work is Leslie & Janice (1 of 3?)'s birthdays. And then Sarah's is on Tuesday. I wanted to make something really fancy and very un-vegan....so I made Amy Sedaris' cupcakes.
They are full of butter and sugar and eggs and 2% milk...and the frosting is really whippy, with confectioner's sugar, a stick of butter, vanilla (amy is Miss Vanilla) and half and half, which I didn't have, so I used my Silk soy creamer (gaaaah)
They are very pretty and pure white.
They smell luscious, I have never told anyone this, but I go ga-ga for the smell of butter & sugar creamed together. (it must be unvegan butter & pure white processed sugar)
Gosh I just love Amy Sedaris. I do believe she should have a cooking show, it would be my favorite show in the entire world and I would watch it everyday at 4 o' clock, she seems like a 4 o' clock gal, or a 10 at night cooking show.
Here is the lovely recipe for her cupcakes (got it over at amysedarisrocks.com)

Amy Sedaris' Cupcakes

1 ½ sticks of unsalted butter
1 ¾ cups of sugar

Beat well, then add:

Add 2 large eggs
2 Teaspoons of pure vanilla
½ teaspoon of salt
2 ½ teaspoons of baking powder
2 ½ cups of flour
1 ¼ cups of milk

Beat well, fill cups, and bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes. You should get 24. I get 18, 'cause I'm doing something wrong.

Frosting

1 stick of unsalted butter
1 box of Domino confectionary sugar
¼ cup half-and-half
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla

Whip for a while, color if you want.

christmas jar mixes

Made three different jar mixes for the girls at work. Leslie, Mary, & Theresa.
From left to right they are: 1. oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. 2. white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies. & 3. lemon poppy seed scones.
We are exchanging gifts on Tuesday and I am really excited to give my presents. It will be really fun!
Today is cold and sunny, I must go run and then later I am going to perhaps bake a cake, and start on my homemade recipe cards.

birthday cupcakes.

Tomorrow is Ronnie's birthday!
I baked him cupcakes last night and took them into work today. I remembered he liked carrot cake, so I baked carrot cupcakes. It is a recipe I had in my "Birthday Cakes" cookbook. The recipe is by Maida Heatter and I veganized it, without nuts & raisins.
Then I made a cream cheese frosting (real cream cheese) to spread on the top. The bottoms were tasty, and I'm sure the creamy tops were too. He ate 2 of them and everyone else loved them. He also gave out his christmas presents today, all of us ladies got cute christmas socks! Mine even light up! wow!
Ronnie also dressed up as a reindeer today and called himself super deer.

cry ass!

Borden thanksgiving was yesterday. had a lovely time! daun brought chris ! and we played some rummy and ate tons of good vegan food that daunie kindly brought!
I had mashed potatoes, really meaty chewy bbq seitan, veggie pot pie, stuffing, corn, some fruit salad, and I had one of Daunie's vegan carrot cake cupcakes with fluffy fluffy vanilla buttercream on top. I made the smlove pie and a bunch of people liked it! It was ultra smooth "silky"-daun. I had a bite and it was so so rich.
Today I am staying home from work, I have a little list of things to do, but I will probably just end up watching a crapload of Gilmore girls, I'm on season 5!
But i'm planning on writing another silent movie for mandy & kodie, and wrapping some presents!
Pictured are daunie's cupcakes and Lisa's jumbo spice cake. really really jumbo.
